Is Your Child Getting Enough Protection From the Sun?

When it comes to sun protection we want to ensure our child is getting the ultimate best. This is why we have turned to our skincare source on Instagram @MelisseBeauty for some advice.

It appears that the only way to ensure your child is getting the right protection is to select a sunscreen with Zinc Oxide. The 3 ingredients that offer “Broad Spectrum” are Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide and Avobenzone.

While these ingredient qualify to be broad spectrum, there are some shortcomings in 2 out of the 3. Titanium dioxide only cover a small range of the UVA in comparison to Zinc Oxide. Additionally, although Avobenzone covers the full UVA and UVB spectrum, it is unstable and breaks down within 50 to 90 minutes after sun exposure.

While there are photostabilizer ingredients for Avobenzone, it is uncertain what percentage and how much is required to ensure sufficient photostability. Zinc Oxide is the only sure bet!
