Care Tips for Phormium Tenax Plant

During the first year, water newly planted plants regularly. Once established, they require little watering and are considerably drought tolerant. For best performance, they do appreciate a little extra watering during the growth period in the spring and through summer.

Container-grown Phormiums need regular watering to keep the compost moist but not soggy. However, overwatering them can cause root rot and fungal diseases.

**A lot of organic soil will break down and get soggy over time. One way to keep your soil from compacting to a soggy mixture is adding chunky pumice and coco bark to your soil. This will minimize compaction as well as quickly distribute the water straight to the roots with ease. These sustainable fibers and elements offer longevity for the garden. Adding some manure will offer some nutritional compounds for this mixture as well. Remember to fertilize as usual.
